investment

This gemstone is the most prized in the world, making it “a sound long-term investment”.

Why invest in diamonds?

Los Natural diamonds not only represent beauty, luxury and exclusivity, but can also be a sound long-term investment. Their rarity and durability make them a symbol of value and legacy, capable of being passed down through the generations.

In addition to their aesthetic value, certified high-quality diamonds can retain and even increase their value over time, depending on market demand, their scarcity and specific characteristics such as cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.

Throughout history, countries such as Russia, China and India have regarded diamonds as a sound investment. In Europe and the United States, an increasing number of investors value their ability to diversify portfolios alongside other assets such as gold, art and property..

A balanced investment strategy typically includes:

Real estate
Fixed-income securities
Tangible assets such as certified diamonds

Investing in diamonds means owning a piece of jewellery steeped in history, quality and prestige. At our artisanal jewellery shop, we offer certified natural diamonds, selected with the utmost care to guarantee their authenticity and excellence.

What is your average annual return?

The profitability of diamonds: a safe and growing investment

Los Certified diamonds are a stable and exclusive investment. Over the years, their value has risen steadily, with an average annual appreciation of 3% to 6%, depending on their quality and rarity.

Unlike other volatile assets, Natural diamonds retain their value over the long term, making them a safe haven for investors. What’s more, they are a tangible asset that you can wear as a unique piece of jewellery, combining luxury and value in a single item.

If you’re looking for a sound, long-term investment, diamonds are a safe bet.

Which diamonds should I buy to make a sound investment?

When buying diamonds as an investment, there are several very important factors to bear in mind.

– The most expensive, largest or rarest diamonds aren’t necessarily the most profitable, as they’ll be harder to sell.
– Good-quality diamonds – without being excessive – are easier to sell and will increase in value proportionally faster than rarer types.
– In my workshop, I recommend investing in or starting with a diamond of at least 0.40 carats, provided it has good characteristics. Its price ranges from around €700 to €1,000.
– Investment diamonds must always come with a quality certificate (a document certifying all their characteristics) from a world-renowned laboratory, such as:

  • IGI: International Gemological Institute
  • GIA: Gemological Institute of America
  • HRD: Hoge Raad voor Diamant (High Council for Diamonds).

We recommend that the gemstone be laser-engraved with the registration number.

Conclusion:

  • If you are looking for very high short-term returns, you should not invest in diamonds. This is a long-term investment.
  • If you’re looking for a very safe investment that retains and increases its underlying value, and which you can convert at any time, diamonds are the best option.

The four qualities of diamonds:

Cutting

Diamond cutting is the process of transforming a rough diamond into a gemstone.
It is the most important of the four qualities, as it refers to how a diamond’s facets interact with light. We must not confuse cut with shape. A diamond’s shape is its geometric appearance.
Cut determines the beauty of a gem more than any other factor; it is the quality and brilliance of a diamond..
If a diamond is not well cut, it will appear dull; if, on the other hand, it is well cut, it refracts and reflects light with unrivalled brilliance.
Two diamonds may have the same characteristics, but it is the cut that determines which is better than the other.
The factors that determine the cut are:
Precision: The relationship between the angles and the size of the different parts of the gemstone.
Polishing: The external finish of a diamond, its details and the positioning of the facets.
Symmetry: The precision with which the facets of a diamond align and intersect.

The most traditional are round diamonds, known as brilliants. This is the cut that best highlights a diamond’s beauty.

Which ones are the best known?

Brilliant Cut:
Famous for its brilliance, this is the most outstanding and widely chosen cut due to everything it offers. It must contain 57 facets to be classified as a brilliant-cut diamond. There are variants with 58 facets featuring a culet, but they are not generally recommended. Without a doubt, we consider it the finest diamond cut.

Princess Cut:
A contemporary style, the princess cut features more than 50 facets and can appear square or rectangular. It is one of the most popular cuts, designed to maximize the diamond’s sparkle. It stands out for its fire and scintillation. The princess cut is one of our favorites for its elegance.

Pear Cut:
Often referred to as an “illusion” cut, as it visually elongates the finger. It features excellent symmetry in a teardrop shape. If you are drawn to its distinctive form, the pear cut always looks stunning in earrings or pendant designs.

Baguette Cut:
For centuries, this diamond cut has been used in royal jewelry. Its name comes from the traditional French bread. It has a rectangular shape and is composed of 25 facets. It highlights the clarity of the stone rather than its brilliance. It is perfect for combining with other diamond cuts in a ring.

Oval Cut:
An elegant blend between the brilliant and marquise cuts. The oval cut is timeless, with a vintage and romantic style. Its facets create a remarkable play of light. An engagement ring naturally calls for an oval diamond, especially for those who appreciate classic jewelry.

Cushion Cut:
Increasingly popular in jewelry design, especially for engagement rings. Also known as the cushion cut, it resembles the princess cut but with rounded corners. A classic style distinguished by its brilliance.

Emerald Cut:
Captivating and elegant, thanks to its depth. Its step-cut facets create a hall-of-mirrors effect. It enhances the pure color and icy clarity of the gem. Another classic cut that many of our clients choose for engagement rings.

Asscher Cut:
Similar to the emerald cut, but square with cropped corners. It was highly popular in the 1920s and has made a strong comeback. It looks particularly striking in earrings.

Marquise Cut:
Named after the Marquise de Pompadour, for whom the Sun King commissioned a diamond shaped like her lips. A romantic story behind a distinctive cut. It allows for more elaborate designs due to its elegance and beauty.

Color

A diamond that is chemically pure and crystallographically perfect is completely transparent, without any hue or color.
Depending on the tone and intensity, a certain color can increase or decrease the value of a diamond. For example, most transparent diamonds become less valuable if they show yellowish tones, while pink or blue diamonds
can be significantly more valuable than their colorless counterparts. Among all colors, red diamonds are the rarest and most valuable.

Weight

The weight of all cut gemstones is expressed in carats. When referring to a piece of jewelry and indicating the total weight of all the diamonds or gemstones it contains, it should be clearly stated as the “total weight.” If the weight refers to the center stone or the main stones, this must also be specified without ambiguity.
One carat weighs the same as a dried carob seed.
The weight can vary depending on the shape of the diamond, and it is important to note that carat weight does not necessarily determine the size. For example, two diamonds may have different carat weights because one has been cut deeper than the other.

Clarity

Diamond clarity refers to the evaluation of the small imperfections found on the surface and within the diamond.

Clarity determines the transparency and uniqueness of the stone. These characteristics become visible under 10x magnification.
In diamonds, these imperfections are known as inclusions.

A diamond with perfect clarity has no internal inclusions or external blemishes.
A diamond with lower clarity contains multiple inclusions, which directly affect its brilliance and reduce the return of light.
